Casemore Gallery is pleased to present ‘Automata Sigils’ opening June 27, 5-8 pm and on view through September 5 with a brief pause during the week of July 21 for the SF Art Book Fair.
Automata Sigils assembles six women artists whose work subverts traditional uses of technological systems and processes to offer contemporary perspectives on craft and design. Drawing on tools ranging from simple machines and Jacquard looms to continuous-feed computer paper and digital video manipulation, these artists repurpose historical apparatuses and data structures to reveal complex psychological relationships to domesticity, illusion, and female desire. Their works transform machinic symbols into sites of speculation and enchantment.
